What types of day hikes do Summit Explorers offer?
We offer guided mountain walks across the UK, from classic summits like Cnicht and Pen y Fan to lesser-known gems. Each route is carefully planned and fully led by qualified Mountain Leaders.
Who can join a Summit Explorers day hike?
Our hikes are open to adults aged 18+ and young people aged 13–17 when accompanied by a responsible adult. You don’t need to be super fit – just up for a challenge and some fresh air!
What is the minimum age to join a hike?
Participants must be at least 13 years old. Under-18s must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
Are dogs allowed on your hikes?
Yes! Well-behaved dogs are welcome on most of our hikes. Please check the specific hike listing, as a few locations may have restrictions due to livestock or terrain.
What should I bring on a day hike?
You’ll need suitable footwear, waterproof clothing, food and water, and a daypack. A full kit list is included in your confirmation email after booking.

What types of DofE expeditions do you offer?
We run Bronze, Silver, and Gold DofE expeditions – including both practice and qualifying expeditions. Our open expeditions are ideal for individuals and small groups looking to complete their award outside of school.
Can I join a DofE expedition as an individual?
Absolutely. Our expeditions are designed for individual participants, so you’ll be grouped with others at the same award level.
What is included in the cost of a DofE expedition?
Your fee covers:
Supervision and assessment by qualified leaders
Route planning and training support
Campsite bookings
Use of group kit (maps, emergency kit, etc.)
Optional tent and stove hire and food packages are also available.
How long do DofE expeditions last?
Bronze: 2 days / 1 night
Silver: 3 days / 2 nights
Gold: 4 days / 3 nights
Practice and qualifying expeditions follow the same duration.
What’s the minimum age for DofE expeditions?
Bronze: You can start in Year 9 (age 13+)
Silver: Year 10 (age 14+)
Gold: You must be 16 or older

Can I join a Gold DofE expedition if I trained elsewhere?
Yes – if you’ve completed your Gold training, you can join our Gold qualifying expedition as an external participant. Just let us know your training history when booking.
Do you provide training for DofE expeditions?
Yes! We offer flexible training options – including one-day refreshers and full Bronze/Silver/Gold training packages. Ideal if you’re starting fresh or need a confidence boost.
Do you offer accessible DofE expeditions?
We’re proud to support participants with additional needs and offer accessible expedition planning, including routes suitable for wheelchair users or those with other mobility challenges. Get in touch to discuss your needs.

Each route is chosen to match the level and experience of participants.
Can I hire tents or cooking equipment?
Yes – we offer:
Tent and stove hire: £25 per expedition
Food packages: £35 (optional)
Bundle both for £60
You’re also welcome to bring your own equipment.
How do I book a DofE expedition?

Do you accept DofE participants from schools or youth groups?
Yes – we’re an Approved Activity Provider (AAP) and regularly work with schools and groups. We also welcome individual bookings from schools not running expeditions internally.
